Scranton Public Library - Friends of the Scranton Public Library Poetry Series

About This Collection

Funded by a grant from the Scranton Area Foundation, this collection contains streaming video of over 50 readings by nationally renowned poets such as W.S. Merwin, Gary Snyder, Robert Bly, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. These poets visited the Scranton from the late 1970's through the 1990's and were filmed as part of the Friends of the Scranton Public Library Poetry Series. The collection also includes posters.

Participants included literary critic and poet Jay Parini, poet Paul Kelly, folk singer Joe Hickerson, musician Tim McGurl, Abram Bernstein, author and scholar Harold Aurand, and radio host George Graham. No video recording of this performance has survived though a video of Paul Kelly reading a poem with an anthracite theme does appear in the Friends of the Scranton Public Library Poetry Series collection.
