The dates appearing above are based on the account data appearing in the volumes. The actual dates for the creation of the volumes, however, is probably closer to 1782-1789 for Volume A; 1788 for Volume AA; and 1788-1792 for Volume AAA. A record of state monetary transactions relating to the payment and settlement of public money, kept for the purpose of auditing, liquidating and adjusting Commonwealth accounts. Although the receipts and payments recorded date from 1776-1792, the books themselves were probably compiled at later times (Vol. A - 1782-1788, Vol. AA - 1788, and Vol. AAA - 1788-1792) for auditing purposes. Entries relate to expenses, revenue, taxes, fines and transactions of individual county officials. Information provided includes a description of each transaction, and the amount involved.
