Substitutes' Depositions (PA) 1862

About This Collection

Depositions of drafted men who were refused substitutes because they had already been sworn into service, depositions by substitutes swearing to assume and perform all duties and obligations, and depositions for substitutes by individuals for whom they substituted. Information appearing includes the substitutes' names, signatures, townships, and counties, the dates, and the names of the persons for whom the substitute was acting as surrogate. Images are grouped by county. This collection is part of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs which is responsible for administering the Pennsylvania National Guard, and administers various programs of assistance to veterans.
