Record book kept by Pennsylvania Surgeon General Dr. Henry H. Smith of 213 candidates examined by the State Medical Board commencing July 28, 1862. Numbered sequentially by exam, the information given for each candidate includes the date of examination, candidate's name, post office of residence, county of residence, age, name of the institution from which graduated, year of graduation, and standard score received on the examination. A remarks column records whether a candidate was accepted unanimously, by a lesser vote, or rejected. Images are arranged chronologically by date of examination. This collection is part of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs which is responsible for administering the Pennsylvania National Guard, and administers various programs of assistance to veterans.
