Record Book of Claims for Arrears of Pay and Bounty (PA) 1864-1869

About This Collection

A record of claims of arrears and bounty due to Pennsylvania Volunteers who fought and died in combat during the Civil War. Entries generally show soldiers' names, ranks, companies, and regiments, the dates and places of death, the claim numbers, the dates of the certificates and of filing, the monetary amount received, and the applicants' names, postal addresses and relationship to the soldier. Remarks which record why a claim was rejected, for example, because a soldier was drafted or was a substitute, also appear. Images are arranged by dates claims were received. This collection is part of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs which is responsible for administering the Pennsylvania National Guard, and administers various programs of assistance to veterans.
