About This Collection

Register of inmates sentenced to the Western State Penitentiary. Each entry provides the inmate number, inmate name, date of sentence, date of discharge, date received at the prison, county of residence, color, grade, occupation, and nature of the crime. Notes, such as if the prisoner was paroled, transferred to another prison, or died in prison, are also present. Images are grouped chronologically by date of inmate sentencing, and thereunder arranged numerically by inmate number. This collection is part of the Department of Justice which administers the state correctional institutions for the Commonwealth.
