Port of Philadelphia Records: Registry Statements of Cargo Contents Duties Paid and Drawbacks, 1782-1785, 1788

About This Collection

Receipts, cargo manifests, duty statements, and drawbacks are contained in this series. These records provide such information as the name of the ship, the value of the cargo, the captain's name, the amount of the duty, and the ship's port of origin. The signatures of the captain and the collector of duties can usually be found on most of the documents. Some images contain written depositions signed by the collector and the importer swearing that the cargo the merchant received was what he had ordered. This collection is part of the Office of the Comptroller General which was created in 1782.
