Port of Philadelphia Records: Accounts and Certificates of the Collector of Head Money, 1791-1808

About This Collection

This volume contains a record of passenger ships entering the port of Philadelphia. Information in each entry includes the name of the ship, its date of entry, the name of its master, the number of passengers on board, and its port of origin. The total amount of head money collected is listed at the end of each fiscal year. Certificates given to the Register of German Passengers are also included in this series. Information on these certificates includes the ship's port of origin, the number of passengers, and the captain's name. An account of money given to the State Treasurer can also be found in this series. Images are arranged in volume order. This collection is part of the Office of the Comptroller General which was created in 1782.
