This volume is a roll book of men who enlisted with the Philadelphia city Lieutenants office during the Revolutionary War. Information provided by each entry in this volume includes the men's names, their private or public substitute (if any), and remarks pertaining to the man's service such as whether he served his tour or deserted, when he was paid, whether he was killed or if he was excused on appeal. Images are arranged in numerical order by battalion and thereunder by company. In each company, men are listed according to the class in which they ranked. This collection is part of the Office of the Comptroller General which was created in 1782.
