About This Collection

The file consists of various pension books and lists of the names of Pennsylvania veterans who served between 1795 and 1883. Most of the accounts concern pensions granted by special legislative acts and usually provide the pensioners' names and counties of residence, dates on which pension payments were either due or made, the amounts of money paid, and the act governing the allotment. Sometimes the claimants' approximate dates of death are also recorded. Images are arranged alphabetically by surname of pensioner. Indexed externally, alphabetically by surname of pensioner. This collection is part of the Office of the Auditor General which audits the fiscal affairs for the Commonwealth.
