About This Collection

Various documents relating to stocks, securities, and currency once maintained by the State Treasurer. Documents include: a power of attorney covering assignment of Commonwealth certificates of stock issued pursuant to Act 202 of 1839; correspondence relating to the transfer of stock and payment of dividends from the Sea Girt Land Investment Company and the Spring Lake Beach Improvement Company; and securities, currency, and supporting records turned over to the Treasury Department pursuant to Act 80 of 1895, which authorized and directed the Auditor General to release to the State Treasurer certain securities and currencies held by the Auditor General for the redemption of such outstanding notes of the Downington Bank and the National Bank of Pennsylvania at Pottsville, both of which banks surrendered their charters in 1864 and 1866 respectively. The securities and currencies were to be held by the State Treasurer for the redemption of any possible notes of these banks which might be presented for redemption. Images are unarranged. This collection is part of Treasury Department which was part of the Constitution of 1776.
