This collection contains collection of formal mortgage indentures signed prior to 1790, handled by the Board of Trustees of the General Loan Office. Information provided includes detailed terms for each mortgage loan, names of all parties involved in the account, date the mortgage was signed, and an annual payment record. They are arranged chronologically by date of entry and indexed internally, alphabetically by surname. This collection is part of the General Loan Office which was established in 1723 to supervise the issuance of bills of credit secured by mortgages on real estate.
