About This Collection

This collection contains index to physicians licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania. Information given is name of physician, date licensed, license number, school of medicine where trained, year of graduation, source from which the information was transferred, and sometimes the date of death. Records are arranged alphabetically by surname of physician. For related records visit the PA State Archives. The Department of State is headed by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, whose office was established under the Constitution of 1776. Duties of the Department of State include authorizing the issuance of licenses.
