Indexed internally alphabetically by surnames of persons named in deeds and charters. Record book containing the transcripts of royal charters and Indian deeds. The Indian deed entries give the date, the names of the Indian grantors, a description of the boundaries of the tract, the amount and nature of payment, and the pictograms used by the grantors as their signature, and sometimes letters from witnesses attesting that whey were present at the signing. Also present is a transcript of a document concerning laying out the Mason-Dixon Line and several maps. All of the above Indian deeds, together with other Pennsylvania and Delaware Indian treaties, that were completed through 1756 have been published in Early American Indian Documents, Treaties and Laws, Pennsylvania and Delaware Treaties, 1607-1789 edited by Alden T. Vaughan and Donald H. Kent (2 volumes, Washington, D.C., 1979, 1984).
