This rig was photographed on November 5, 1879, in front of Archibald Tanner's store building on Pennsylvania Avenue west. According to the sign, its owner is headed for the Salt River Range in extreme west central Wyoming. Probably relates to the 1878 law placing a limit on paper money issued by the U.S. government.

The 1855 Brown Brothers Foundry (later site of Struthers-Wells) on Pennsylvania Avenue West at the Pennsylvania Railroad crossing. This frame building stood where the remaining Struthers brick shops now (2004) house the Moldsmiths plastics firm. The photo probably dates to 1860 or slightly later.

Among the earliest photos taken in Warren is this 1860 view of the Carver House, built in 1849, and right, the Tanner business block. The site is the intersection of Hickory Street with Pennsylvania Avenue.

Charles W. Rathbun house at the northeast corner of East Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Dr. Elizabeth Beaty constructed her brick home (still standing) on this site, ca 1917. The porch columns from the Rathbun house were later used on a house on Prospect Street, but replaced (ca 1990) with inappropriate substitutes.

Col. David Gardner, Marshall of Memorial Day Parade, in G.A.R. uniform. Building in rear is at southeast corner of Liberty Street and Third Avenue; built by Ebenezer Jackson and later called the Sill House. It has been home to numerous offices and businesses, notably the Newell Press and West Penn Oil Company. The photo probably dates to 1910-1915.

Old wooden dam on the Conewango Creek (just below Beaty Junior High School, where concrete dam is now) circa 1910. The church at left is the 1911 St. Paul's Lutheran which burned in 1915 and was immediately replaced by a new structure sold to the Warren Players as a theatre in 1971. It is now (2004) privately owned and being rehabilitated for use as a house. Beyond, upstream, is the Third Avenue bridge.
