10,000 Trees pin badge. “10,000 Trees” was a major tree-planting effort organized by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to plant 10,000 trees in Fairmount Park and 33 smaller Philadelphia parks between 1973 and 1977. This was PHS’s signature project for the Bicentennial and a gift to the City from PHS donors.

 One of the five major Bicentennial projects launched by PHS was “10,000 Trees,” a tree-planting initiative to plant 10,000 trees in Philadelphia owned and maintained parks. The project goal was two-fold: to increase our urban tree canopy and to revitalize and bring attention to Philadelphia parks. 4L is Philadelphia Mayor Frank Rizzo; PHS leader Ernesta D.
