The text, however, does point out that "for some reason, Franklin in his writings and correspondence is singularly silent upon the subject of Freemasonry .... There is not a word about his Masonic life to be found in his Autobiography, or in any of his other letters that have come down to us; almost every other subject is touched upon in his voluminous correspondence except such as relate to the Craft." (page 105)

The Urgent need of officers for Colored Troops. (cont.) Free School for Military Tactics and Camp William Penn in Washington, DC. Arrangements made by Colonel Wagner, Commander of Camp William Penn, with the Free military school for applicants for command of colored troops for students to intern at the camp.

This page completes the listing of the units and their final disposition. The Third (8th United States) filled December 4, 1863, the Fourth (22nd United States) filled January 6, 1864, and the Fifth was full February 3, 1864. The First (3rd United States) left the camp August 13, 1863 and surrendered in front of Fort Wagner. The Second (6th United States) left for Yorktown October 14, 1863. The Third (8th United States) left for Hilton Head January 16, 1864. The last two units are still at Camp William Penn awaiting orders. Mentions again that all five units were founded on the estimated funding for three, and that a Free Military School has been founded at 1210 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. This school, under John H. Taggart, a former Colonel of the 12th Pennsylvania Reserves, contained 161 students, being trained for command of the colored regiments. It states that all students sent for examination in Washington, DC have passed and command units. The School had recently gained an Assistant and a Professor. The plea for aid begins at this point, stating that the fund was almost exhausted.

An early description of the ornamentation of the state capitol building in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Intended as a visitors' guide, it presents a prose description of George Grey Barnard's two massive sculptures on either side of the entrance, and identifies the images and symbolism in Edwin Austin Abbey's paintings, Violet Oakley's murals, and W. B. Van Ingen's stained glass. This 21 page booklet was completed after 1911 (it refers to Abbey's death, which came in that year) and before 1920 (when Oakley finished painting her murals for the senate chamber).
