An essay on the life and political career of Abraham Lincoln, and the potential secession of the southern states. Written after the pre-election secession of the first seven states, but prior to the attack on Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861 and the secession of the last four states (not counting Missouri and Kentucky, where the Confederate governments went into exile soon after secession). Also covers slavery and the opinions and speeches of William H. Seward. Essay is against the saving of the Union at the cost of retaining slavery.
