In 1993, a late-winter blizzard dumped more than a foot of snow on Philadelphia and shut down roads and railways. The show closed early, but not before Oleh Tretiak skiied to the Civic Center from his home in the city's Art Museum neighborhood. After the forced closing of the show, Civic Center employees took pity on stranded exhibitors and PHS staff, and supplied food.

This 1993 niche category required competitors to create an arrangement that would interpret a famous quote. Using a mini carnation, eucalyptus, and part of a cigar, Pamela Danner interpreted Winston Churchill's unforgettable words, "We shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender."

This 1993 room class required that entries interpret a "commercial enterprise then and now: a section of a commercial space depicting some sort of business." The Garden Workers exhibit, Time Races On, depicted a bicycle shop then and now. "The choice of gear-like plants captured the sensation of cycling," wrote the enthusiastic judges.

Elizabeth McLean helps plant out the Pitmedden exhibit at the 1993 Flower Show. A landscape and garden historian, McLean was charged with ensuring that this replica of Pitmedden's 17th-century parterre was correct in every detail. She visited Scotland to study and photograph the original gardens.

Midge Ingersoll and Evelyn Seaton created their first miniature exhibit in 1993 and won Best in Show for that category. Miniatures are installed in boxes measuring 36 inches wide, 22 inches deep, and 42 inches high; the viewing public sees them through a frame 12 inches high and 22 inches wide.

Signature Landscape & Design of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and Romano's Landscaping of Pitman, New Jersey, worked together to create this exhibit for the 1993 show, inspired by a historic, renovated Chester County springhouse. The springhouse replica was set in a naturalistic backdrop of native rhododendrons and hostas. Delphiniums, astilbes, and azaleas surrounded a flagstone terrace.
