About This Collection

The Harmonists, a Christian Communal society, founded Old Economy Village in 1824. They were known for their piety, as well as for their economic successes in textile manufacturing, including silk production, and later in the oil and railroad industries. Old Economy Village in Ambridge, PA is the home of a great deal of information about the Harmony Society and life in general in the nineteenth century. Caption: The Old Economy Art League - The old Economy Art League recently organized group of professional artists of the Beaver Alley (sic), Held its first exhibit of painting and sculptors on Sunday in the Music Hall of Old Economy, Ambridge. Dr. C. Eric Hulmler, conservator - consultant for Old Economy. a guest, gives his vies of one of the paintings to other guests - Mrs. Clifford Morrow, Aliquippa, left, and Mrs. Charles Williams, Center Township. The exhibit will be continued daily Sunday through Saturday 9 a.m to 4 p.m. on the second floor of the old carriage house at Old Economy.
