Cadwalader, Lambert, 1742-1823
Biography of Lambert Cadwalder, an American merchant and leader in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He fought in the Revolutionary War, then represented New Jersey in the Continental Congress and the U.S. Congress.

The 160-page official report investigating the cause of a disastrous mine accident that happened on 28 June 1896, taking the lives of 58 miners. The greater part of this book consists of the transcribed testimony of the witnesses before the mine inspectors. The report itself ends (pp. 17-18) with 5 recommendations "to guard against and prevent a repetition of such accidents." Pages 131-133 contain a list of the names of all the deceased and of their dependents, the relation of dependent to miner, and the age of the children.
