About This Collection

The Mike Stout collection spans from 1937 to 2020. The collection contains a variety of materials from political marching banners, to local union newspapers, to clothing, to paper material, to CDs, and more. The bulk of the collection covers labor history, with a particular interest in union activities in Homestead, Pennsylvania and around the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania region. Much of the material has to do with the steel industry in the region as well. The collection also contains a good sampling of music in relation to unionism and big business. The collection was donated by Mike Stout in 2020 and digitized in 2023.

This booklet is a copy of the 1994 agreement between Allegheny Ludlum Steel, a division of Allegheny Ludlum Corporation, covering Brackenridge Works, Wallingford Plant, and West Leechburg Works and United Steelworkers of America. The agreement was settled on July 17, 1994 regarding the Union as the exclusive collective bargaining representative for all of the employees of the company.

The notice was given on July 10, 1978 as a result of Stout distributing and "open letter" by the Local 1397 union to all Slab and Plate employees regarding overtime. The company addresses this as impeding work under Basic Labor Agreement. This is given as a warning before more severe disciplinary action.

The Fight Against Overtime Drop the United Way letter is addressed to the employees of the 160' mill from Ronald Weisen, the President of the USWA Local 1397 and Mike Stout, the grievance chairman of the USWA Local 1397. The letter warns the workers of working overtime as it is a ploy by the company to overwork their employees. The letter also instructs employees to boycott the United Way as an act of protest against the overtime.
