The photograph is double sided. The front side of the photograph depicts Monsignor Charles O Rice at the funeral of Jock Yablonski in Washington Pa in January of 1970. Joseph 'Jock' Yablonski was an American labor leader in the United Mine Workers beginning in the 1950s through the 1960s. Jock sought to reform the union, challenging Tony Boyle for the presidency of the union, but was defeated. After challenging the election, Yablonski, his wife, and their daughter were murdered in their home in 1969 by gunmen hired by Tony Boyle.

Pictured at Monsignor Charles Owen Rice with Rev. Carl Hensler and Monsignor George Barry O'Toole. One of the strikers in the back is giving the communist salute.
