The Charles McCollester Collection contains both physical items and textual items spanning from 1877 to 2018 with an emphasis on the 1980's into the 2000's. The collection's subjects vary from Pittsburgh steel and union history, the founding of the Battle of Homestead Foundation, Monsignor Rice, and Pennsylvania historical markers. Though the collection focuses primarily on the state of Pennsylvania, much of the collection has national significance as well.

This picture was taken at Schenley High School auditorium at Community Forum of Pittsburgh which included the debate between Monsignor Rice and Clarence Hathaway on October 10, 1938. The topic of debate was, "May a Catholic Accept the Outstretched Hand of Communism?" The back side has a note that reads, Debate between Father Charles Rice and Clarence Hathaway at Schenley High School Auditorium on October 10, 1938.

Pictured at Monsignor Charles Owen Rice with Rev. Carl Hensler and Monsignor George Barry O'Toole. One of the strikers in the back is giving the communist salute. The back side of the photograph has a note that reads, Meeting Local 325 CANNING AND PICKLE WORKERS DURING ITS STRIKE AT HEINZ, SUMMER OF 1937. REV. CHARLES O. RICE, REV. CARL HENSLER, MSGR.
