Brick factory buildings of the Piso Company on the Island (millrace in the foreground) ca 1900. At right is the race bridge at the foot of Liberty Street. This site is now (2004) occupied in part by a large municipal parking garage.

The southeast corner of Pennsylvania Avenue ( then 440 Water Street) and Liberty Street, in 1899 the site of the bridge across the millrace at Liberty (across the race is part of the Piso building). Shops in the two wooden buildings are left, Kirberger's wagon shop, and Spinner hardware.

Central and Union schools, northeast corner of Third Avenue and Hickory Street, circa 1890. Central, at left, was added in 1871 to the older Union building, built in 1854 and razed in 1900. Central was home to high school students until construction of Warren High School in 1897 but continued in use as an elementary school until razed in 1936 to make way for a new municipal building.

Looking east on Pennsylvania Avenue from the millrace bridge during the flood of March 1913. None of the buildings in this view - including the large brick structure beyond the Conewango Creek Bridge - still stands.

Lower end of The Island during the April 1947 flood. The mouth of the millrace is at left. Originally called Breeze Point, this 19th century boat landing was newly named Breeze Point Landing in 2002, during redevelopment of this portion of town.

High water on the millrace log pond and The Island in the 1890s. The waterworks stack is at center on a site occupied much later by the former Loranger Plastics firm. The latter building remains in 2004, rehabilitated as part of the Impact Warren project.
