The Andrew Ludlow building, northeast corner of Liberty Street and Second Avenue in 1875 or slightly later. This early business block was replaced in turn by the Hoffman building (1883) and the Kresge building (1929), now (2004) the Liberty Street Marketplace. The spire in the background topped Warren's second First Presbyterian Church building (on the site of the first on Market Street). It was built in 1866.

The Thomas Clemons house (center), corner of 4th and Hickory; old Union School and Annex (later Central School) at 3rd Avenue behind house. Left of the school buildings is the First Methodist Church (the first building, constructed in 1833).

View from above Liberty Street, looking southeast across Fifth Avenue, in 1873. At center is the brick mansard-roofed Struthers-Wetmore-Schimmelfeng house (now -2004- Warren County Historical Society headquarters). To its left is the tall spire of the First Presbyterian Church on Market Street.

Original German Lutheran Church (later St. Paul's), third church building in Warren, 1846--1848. Sold to Swedish-Danish Lutheran Church on August 8, 1871, purchased by C.H. Johnson and wife March 30, 1904 for a double house at 415-417 East Street. Built on original foundation (with changes) using lumber from the church for part.

The original First Methodist Church, constructed in 1833 and replaced in 1885 by the second church building on the same site on Third Avenue. This space is now (2004) occupied by the Central Fire Station. The second building was sold to the Evangelical United Brethren congregation upon completion of the third Methodist structure on Market street in 1925.

Western end of the Exchange block circa 1875. Beyond, to the west, are the suspension bridge cables and the Tanner store built in 1816. The brick tollbooth for the bridge is partly visible under the cables. Ames and Leonhart saddle and harness shop at center. Painting and furniture. Wendelbow and Johnston building at photo center.

View from the south side of Warren's 400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in 1916 or 1917. The Hickory Street bridge completed in 1918 is under construction. Major buildings, left to right, are the Trinity Memorial Church, the Bayer building, the Central fire station (two towers), the three-story Hall block, the Carver House hotel at far right, and behind it the tower of the city building at Third Avenue and Hickory Street.

The Point (Second Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue West) in 1868. In the distance is the spire of the then First Presbyterian Church on Market Street. The Beecher and Copeland Hardware stood on a portion of the site (in 2004) of the National City Bank (formerly Pennsylvania Bank and originally the Warren Savings Bank) built in 1891. Note the clothing store in white building at center of photo.

The second First Presbyterian Church building, on the east side of Market Street near Third Avenue, circa 1868. Built on the site of the first church, it became home of the Bethlehem Covenant congregation in 1897. It was constructed in 1866 and razed in 1974. The lot is now (2004) used for parking for the First Baptist Church next door. In 1868, neighbors were Lansing Wetmore at 204 Market Street and Jane E. Merrill at 212 Market Street.

At The Point in 1873. The Scott House hotel, in the Watson-Davis block at right, lasted only a few years. The brick building farthest right on Second Avenue was the new (1871) First National Bank. Right of center is the spire of the First Presbyterian Church on Market Street.

North side of Second Avenue circa 1868. Brick buildings replacing the frame structures shown here became home to firms such as First National Bank, the Printz and Carnahan stores, G.C. Murphy's, and Warren National Bank (PNC Bank). At far right is the tower of the First Presbyterian church (later Bethlehem Covenant) on Market Street.
