The 1871 Warren suspension bridge in 1875. At left is the frame city lockup. The brick building on the bridge approach is the tollbooth (the second, replacing a Victorian gothic original in 1873).

The swinging footbridge at Third Avenue about 1900. It was replaced in 1904 with an iron auto bridge. At left rear is the original (1877) Jefferson Street School.

The Tanner block at the northeast corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Hickory Street ca 1875. Razed in 1888.

View ca 1878 looking east over Warren from Tanner Hill. The brick David Beaty mansion, surrounded by his large acreage dotted with oil wells, appears just right of center in the middle distance across Conewango Creek.

An 1863 view of Warren from Tanner Hill, looking down Market Street. The two brick buildings at center are the first county office building and courthouse. To the right are the steeples of the Baptist and Universalist Churches on Liberty Street. (The Baptist Church stood on the present, 2004, site of the post office parking lot.)

The Tanner-Scofield house, east side of Liberty Street between Second and Third Avenues (in 2004 the site of the former Montgomery Ward building). Built in 1833, it was razed in 1928. Photo 1895 (?)
General stores, Buildings
Archibald Tanner's 1816 general store building on the south side of Pennsylvania Avenue, just west of the Exchange Block and next to the suspension bridge. It stood until 1909 when the Soldiers and Sailors monument was constructed nearby. Note it served as a Western Union Telegraph and Cable Company and housed Lott's cut flower store. This photo dates to 1908.

Tearing down the 1871 suspension bridge on completion of new concrete bridge at Hickory Street, 1918. The Soldiers and Sailors monument was erected in 1909.
