About This Collection

The Summerville, Pennsylvania Story Project is a collection of documents, photos, and other memorabilia intended to present the human side of Summerville. The collection material dates from the occupancy by Native American tribes to the founding of Troy (later named Summerville) through growth and decline to the present day. Presented in the form of stories, vignettes, and anecdotes, we hope to communicate the warm feelings we have for our town and introduce her to others around the globe.

Company Store building) burning in 1922. The dark building in the center foreground is the "Old Red Barn" owned by the Pennsy Coal Company Store. The white building is the Baughman Blacksmith building, later purchased by Andy and bob Sebring for their garage.

Description reads: Shortly after the fire of January 1922 which burned the Carrier Brothers store, Ott Hummel store, Osborne Hotel and Bob Neil's home was dynamited to stop the fire. House with windows boarded up, was Banty Thompson's. Dean Smith lives in Thompson house now (1992). Women in picture L to R are : Agnes Wonderling, Ione, Whiteman, Carrie Bish and daughter Bess. Houses on hill belong to Heckman brothers and John Beck (on Railroad St.)
