Description

A barn razing was taking place when three women, four men and a small boy gathered for a picture. The barn was built about 1835, and was razed soon after 1921. A log house used as a home was about 25 feet west of the barn and was also razed in 1921. The men and the boy are dressed in white shirts and ties, with dark slacks. The women are wearing long white dresses. Transcribed from a note filed with the picture 'Barn on Jacob Vought's home in Negro Mountain, Somerset County, Pa. This log structure was razed soon after the picture was taken in 1921. It was built about the year 1835. Jacob Vought, my Great Grandfather, was born in 1815, died in 1891, the year in which I was born. The log house occupied as a home was just about 25 feet to the west of the barn, and it too was razed in 1921. Will Judy, Chicago 1929. (I do not know the identity of the folks in the picture), but I believe they are of the Roy Vought 'freinschaft.'' 7 x 5 in. black and white photograph.
