A letter from Charles M. Barrows, Principal and President of Barrows School of Hearing, Inc. to Jennie C. Trein, famed folk artist, regarding her daughter Marie's progress. Transcript of written portion of the letter is as follows: "Dear Mrs. Trein, What your letter has to say about Marie pleases me much, and I hope she will exhibit all the gains she has made and develop many others. But I cannot dwell upon this interesting, to me wonderful, acquirements, for my mind is full of a grave subject and I am busy writing answers to friends who are anxious to know about Miss Tierney. I am deeply troubled about her. She is in the Woman's Hospital, were the doctors (specialists) are watching the case which puzzles them. It is a far more critical case than they at first supposed. They will operate upon her tomorrow, I think. But she ahs become so weak that her nervous system may not indure the strain and the re-sult be fatal. Now, if you will pardon this neglect of the rest of your good long letter, I will close here and take up the next. Sincerely yours C.m. Barrows"
