Old Opera House: Shell of theatrical building after disastrous fire. Stage of old opera house. Caption reads: "The Lycoming Opera House, at West Third and Laurel Streets, which was swept away by fire May 31, 1915, causing $200,000 damage. The building, one of the most complete and commodious playhouses in Central Pennsylvania, was erected in 1892, and many historic plays were enacted on its stage by famous performers. Forty years ago, the week's attractions included Sidney Drew in "The Gilded Age." The theater building housed a sporting goods store, millinery, other shops, lodge rooms, and offices. The Repasz Band lost valuable band instruments, souvenir pieces, and records in the blaze. The accompanying pictures include a view after the fire and one of the stage."
