About This Collection

The family of Henry Keller were residents of Boalsburg, Pa. in the 1800's. Sophie Keller, daughter of Henry and Margaretta (nee Schneck), is significant because of her participation in a graveside remembrance at the Boalsburg, PA cemetery in Oct. 1864 that blossomed into an annual memorial day event now held in May. Collection covers sixty-one letters and one poem from 1837 to 1893 associated with the life of family members, including Margaretta's kin, with many in the Civil War timeframe.

Louisa eloquently apologizes for not writing back for almost a year. Louisa stated that she wanted to visit in person instead but 'color in my limbs' to her, her daughter's convulsions and fever, and her little girl's whooping cough prevented it. Louisa's daughter, Lizzie, truly misses Ellie.

Louisa believes that her large nose 'indicates a little judgement or else there would be no use in having one'. Also Louisa apologizes eloquently for not writing back sooner. Louisa stated that Sallie was 'too tender & gentle' for married life. Louisa's son 'Christie' said he would marry her if Sallie stays single.

Louisa thanked Addie for copying the manuscript. Louisa acknowledged Addie's good penmanship saying she writes like 'copperplate'. Louisa congratulated Addie for being a mother, and provided her thoughts of a mother.
