About This Collection

The Lycoming College Collection begins after the accreditation of the Williamsport Dickinson Seminary and Junior College as a four year college. It is a growing collection that chronicles the evolution of this small liberal arts institution, and will include photographs, annuals, catalogs, event programs, alumni newsletters, and promotional material. Student life is represented in publication and information concerning organizations and activities. Continuing in the tradition of the forerunners of the college, a rich musical, theatrical, and artistic environment is documented. Athletics also figure prominently in this collection. An expanding collection of faculty and presidential papers have been contributed, along with records from the libraries, Archival items include assorted artifacts, numerous photographs, and a collection of scrapbooks spanning forty-five years.

According to the fall of 1956 Lycoming College Bulletin, "Coach David G. Busey is pictured with two veteran warriors…Kenneth A. Polcyn from Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Wayne E. Bohn from Yeagerstown, Pennsylvania. Polcyn, a Junior, was N.A.I.A. All-State end last year. Wayne Bohn, as Sophomore, was one of the leading ground-gainers for the Warriors last year. Great things are expected from both boys this season."

Tribute was paid to head football coach Frank Girardi, one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history, at Lycoming College's annual football awards banquet. Girardi was recognized for becoming only the 17th coach at any NCAA football level to win 250 games. The milestone was met November 16, 2005, during an over time victory against rival Susquehanna Universtiy. According to the Lycoming College website, "The Dean of the College, Dr. John Piper, completed a rare collection by presenting Girardi with one of the game balls from his 250th win. The front of the ball was painted blue with white and gold lettering that marked the occasion."

According to the Lycoming College website, "Lycoming College head football coach Frank Girardi earned the 250th victory of his illustrious career as the Warriors capped the 2005 season with a 17-10 overtime victory over longtime rival Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon." The article goes on to say, "The victory was special for Coach Girardi in a number of ways. His family was on hand to witness the 34-year mentor become only the 17th coach in any NCAA football division and only one of five active coaches with 250 career wins. It is also fitting that this victory comes against Susquehanna. In 1972, following a 0-5 start, Coach Girardi notched his first victory in a 16-12 decision against the Crusaders."
