About This Collection

The Lycoming College Collection begins after the accreditation of the Williamsport Dickinson Seminary and Junior College as a four year college. It is a growing collection that chronicles the evolution of this small liberal arts institution, and will include photographs, annuals, catalogs, event programs, alumni newsletters, and promotional material. Student life is represented in publication and information concerning organizations and activities. Continuing in the tradition of the forerunners of the college, a rich musical, theatrical, and artistic environment is documented. Athletics also figure prominently in this collection. An expanding collection of faculty and presidential papers have been contributed, along with records from the libraries, Archival items include assorted artifacts, numerous photographs, and a collection of scrapbooks spanning forty-five years.

During the New Student Convocation for the Class of 2011, Dr. Griffiths (Provost and Dean of the College) presented the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry Exemplary Teacher Award to Dr. Gene Sprechini, who joined the Mathematical Sciences Department in 1981. Dr. Sprechini was also the recipient of the 2007 Constance Cupp Plankenhorn Alumni Award for Faculty Excellence.

Students meet on the Quad Thursday afternoon, May 7th following the procession for peace in downtown Williamsport. A "Teach-In" about the Cambodian situation was held the day before. Information from the 'Lycoming Quarterly,' Summer 1970.

Students meet on the the steps of Long Library Wednesday afternoon, May 6th. Those in front hold placards with the names of the four students killed on Monday of that week at Kent State University. A 'Teach-In' about the Cambodian situation was held from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm. The Student Government Association passed a resolution the evening before requesting, 'That there be a student boycott of all Wednesday classes according to individual conscience, to protest the Cambodian invasion, the Kent State deaths, and the war in Vietnam.'
