216 April 3 - 8:00 P.M. Tuesday Oh darling: I so wish you could be here to help me tonight - Wendy has just about run me ragged. I don't know whether its her vaccination, or whether she just wants to be picked up. I guess it is probably a little bit of both. Its awfully hard to listen to her cry and sob this way, but I don't know what to do except let her cry it out. Her vaccination looks nasty - all messy and red - but I'm told that is the way they all look - some lots worse. I do hope she won't have a nasty scar on her arm. This afternoon we walked downtown and shopped with Gerry and Dickie. They got here to the house early, and we sat out back for awhile. When Wendy woke up, Dickie came inside with me to watch Wendy get dressed. [pg 2] He watched with a very serious expression on his face for awhile, and then came out with, “Do you know what, I love Wendy, she's so cute.”! You like Dickie he's a typical little boy, full of energy, big eyes, very ruddy cheeks, and healthy tan. He throws out quite a line, for one so young. Gerry showed me some more pictures that Rheinie had sent. If you haven't already seen it, next time you see Rheinie ask him to show you the snapshot of the little girl, dressed in kimono, and holding her baby brother on her back - I think its priceless. Maybe when you get the printing paper, you will be able to trade some of it for copies of pictures like that- Wendy is down to a sleepy cry now - I hope she drops off soon. 9:00 Helen just left - between the two of us we managed to give Wendy a ¼ [pg 3] of an aspirin, but she's still crying- Oh my precious - the Special Man just brought me your letter - darling, you always come thru where I need you most. He heard Wendy crying, and I told him she wasn't feeling too well - he was awfully nice, and asked if there was anything he could do - Pictures!!! Sweety you just don't know how good it is to get them - And now Wendy is asleep too - all that little rascal needed all the time was her daddy's touch- You look just as good as ever, and I’d like to give you a big bear hug right now - so consider yourself loved up and then some. I don't see any signs of a tummy at all. Didn't recognize Mac Q. with his moustache- makes him look lots older. The picture of Charlie is good - tell him for me that I hope it won't be too long before we’re able to take some more silly pictures like the ones at Allen's Park. Tel looks like a nice, pleasant [pg 4] sort of a guy- And more pictures coming - I can hardly wait - The Specials are wonderful darling - they are great for my morale, and you always seem to get them to me when I need them most. Of course I'll be glad to have additional prints made - I'll attend to these first three tomorrow. Am so anxious to have you see the snapshots I sent off earlier today - Will send you two rolls of 35 mm if I can get them this week. No, honey you don't know the Wentzmans, and I only saw Marjorie the time I went to tea, but she is directly responsible for my meeting Helen Wilson, and through her Agnes Martineau. Tomorrow I plan to leave Wendy with Bev, and go on my errand to the Sunset School. That picture of the school-I'm so glad to have it, and look at it often - [pg 5] Helen has taken Walter's leaving beautifully - much better than I was able to take yours. She is a very sensible person - an orphan since she was a little girl, she knows how to make the best of a difficult situation like this. She has her bad moments, as we all do - but Bobbie keeps her busy and her mind occupied with other things. Yes darling, its very lonely without you, but I'm gradually getting to the point where I feel you with me even more keenly than I did at first. I know this separation isn't going to hurt either of us, and now I know that whether we like it or not it can't help but do a great deal for both of us separately, and far more important collectively. That 20 page letter was a gem - I wish you could have had a movie of me when I opened the envelope and leaped through the pages. The sulfa seems to have done the trick, and I'm not going back for a check-up. Its too complicated [pg 6] trying to get someone to stay with Wendy - and I don't want to ask anyone to use their gas for an extra [?]. I hope you get a “whack” at running the school too, but the Navy being what it is, and more or less understandably so. I guess it would be a good idea not to think too much about it. Jacobzines left over a month ago - or I surely would have gone to consult him. Chuck Mulligan, so Gladys tells me, won't be leaving for 2 or 3 weeks - Marge, stuck in Seattle, is furious, but it may be that he will still be in the country when the baby is born - I certainly hope so. Just what I say! But, if I can find the glove, I'll mail it to you, because you are such an extra special (no pun intended) husband. Darling, I feel so much better - Wendy is still sleeping and I'm nice and relaxed - you’re really good when you can accomplish that by remote control! Thank you beloved - I love you too - so very much- Bobby
