74 Sunday Nov. 26 3:15 P.M. My dearest darling: We do anticipate each other's thoughts! For about a week now I've been planning to send you some perfume in a letter, and just this morning going down to the P.O. I thought, today I'll surely put some perfume on cotton and send it along. The powdered piece you will recognize as the sachet I use for our [?] and my [nighties?], the other piece is my ‘New Imperial Russe’- I'm all dressed up in your green plaid shirt, and spattered denims - curled up in the big chair, writing on the scrapbook, and occasionally glancing up at the fire. Wendy is on the floor playing with her bub, and trying to push backwards. She has on white rompers, the wool soakers I made and her blue tassled booties. When I speak to her, she looks up and smiles saying - hm a ga ga ga m Ka. This morning I cried when I got her up, because she looked so exactly like you when she stretched and yawned. I have to put her in her sleeping harness now, because for two nights I've gone in to find her down at the foot of her crib, way under the covers. That's a natural result of her trying to creep backwards. There were three letters from you this morning, 51, 52, and 53 - I've already read them thru 3 times - love the typewritten one, about the pay line, and you and Super showering in the rain. Wish I’d been there instead of Super, I'm sure it would have been lots more fun than the bathtub! [pg 2] Wish you could see Wendy's corner in the bedroom. Have her toys on the sill of the window that opens out on the balcony - and one of the pictures John took of us mounted on a piece of blue and white checked cotton above the crib. The crib looks so cunning. Edward Elephant is in one top corner, and Boy Blue in the other. The blankets, one white, one blue topped by the satin comforter and at the bottom a pink satin pillow and Hiram Horse. Got the bank statement yesterday - and was just 60¢ off in our favor - couldn't find the error so I took the statement balance. Am mailing it and the checks so you can see our expenses. Don't let the balance fool you, I haven't gotten my dentist bill or the bill for our last phone call yet. We went downtown again today for dinner - helps break the day up. I've been trying to think of what Paula most reminds me of - I think it's a N.Y. secretary - a little over familiar and curious - but I welcome any company and she certainly is nice to us. Would give anything to have someone like Jean around - someone I could talk to, and listen to, and who knew what this was all about. Paula just doesn't have any intellectual curiosity or insight - and so she is caught in her own web of uncertainty, and ignorance. Don't think I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth - I'm not - just missing some real companionship. Phoned Marge, because we haven't seen her in over a week now. She's had a cold, and bad case of ptomaine. Merrill [pg 3] is currently touring the Riviera! According to our own little blue scale, you can get five sheets and envelopes to the letter. Will send our Christmas cards guided by last year's list, and then will send a duplicate to you. Saw the Life pictures of the Top of the Mark - was going to send them, but thought you would probably see them sooner or later. If I can get a copy of the trolley song will send it to you. More before bedtime- 6:30 Don't now what got into Wendy tonight - after her bath she got into a terrific crying spell; wouldn't eat any of her supper, and I couldn't do a thing to comfort her. She wasn't feverish and didn't have any gas on her tummy, so I put her to bed, and she went promptly to sleep. Perhaps she was just tired - at any rate, I'll give her an 8 oz. bottle before I go to bed. She is quite a job to feed now, because she is so active - never know whether the spoon is going in to her mouth or ear - frequently she sniffs cereal, etc. into her nose, causing numerous sneezes and spraying me liberally with flying bits of egg, cereal, fruit, veg. pudding, or what have you. In between mouthfuls she has to admire the spoon or my ring, or perhaps smile and say something. Personality? There's lots of it in that little person, and more coming out every day. Honey when you are back in Hawaii, and [pg 4] then sent out again - will that be til the 20 or so months are up? It's hard to think of not even having any phone calls, and the mail service probably won't be as good. Our trunk looks particularly rich in the firelight - it got two bad scratches coming out here - one on the wood, and another on the leather. Darling, I hate to stop writing, but run out of things to say. Think I will spend the rest of the evening reading ‘Still Time to Die’ - it's hard reading for me, because it hits home so many times and hits hard - If I could only do something to hurry our being together again. I love you with a love that grows deeper and fuller each day Bobby 26/42 Dinner with the family - visit with Dot and Ed at the 5th Ave. Hotel - Dinner again at [?] Dance - down to the Village Vanguard - no time for sleep - early breakfast 26/43 Warr skied to school this morning - Lunch on the hill.
