Books and serial publications published by the various Lutheran Deaconess Communities in the United States, focused on those with Motherhouses in Philadelphia and Baltimore. Counting only those institutions that are planned after and conducted in the spirit of the German originals, there are to-day, according to the latest statistics, more than seventy Deaconess Motherhouses in the world, with over 10,000 Sisters, engaged in 3,650 fields of labor. Motherhouses are found in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France, England, Hungary, Switzerland, Finland, Russia, the United States, and since last year one in Australia; whilst the Sisters trained in these houses carry on their work of love and mercy in almost every part of the world.
