The Alumni Gymnasium was built in 1903. The basement held lockers and showers. Having showers that would not freeze you with ice cold water was a very pleasant and luxurious experience compared to the old ways of bathing as discussed in the 1905 Lanthorn short article "The Bath Room".

Cheerleading started with only male cheerleaders. In the early 1920s, women became active in cheerleading at some schools. Susquehanna University did not have females involved in cheerleading until the late 1940s. However, by the late 1950s, all of the cheerleaders were women.

One of the many student clubs formed was the Preacher's Sons Club. Having a sense of humor, the Preacher's Sons Club contrasted the way they act at home versus the way they act at college in the 1902 Lanthorn.

Summer school at Susquehanna University started in 1902. In the 1918 summer school catalog, the impact of World War I is noted under "Over There" and "Over Here". Also, summer school expenses for female students cost slightly more than expenses for male students.

In 1939, on Homecoming Day at Susquehanna University, the United States Army Ambulance Corps - Sections 574 and 584 - held a reunion. During World War I, men from Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, and other surrounding areas had examinations and were sworn in at the old Alumni Gymnasium on campus. Then they left for their training in Allentown, PA. While serving, they were responsible for the collection and transport of wounded soldiers by ambulance to a field hospital for medical attention.
