Rope skipping, Community service, Students, Susquehanna University, Jump rope for heart
Sponsored by the SU Athletic Training Club, the first annual Jump Rope For Heart was held on March 27, 1992 at the O. W. Houts Gymnasium. Proceeds from the event went to the American Heart Association.
Seibert Hall, Skinheads, Discussion, Susquehanna University
Seibert Auditorium hosted approximately 100 people intested in a panel discussion with a group of non-racist skinheads. The purpose of the lecture was to "de-mystify the stereotyping of the skinhead organization" and the members of the panel portrayed themselves as just another youth group.
Men Against Rape, Family violence, Students, Susquehanna University
The Men Against Rape organization aimed to have men "re-examine their attitudes toward rape and sexual assault." The group also took part in community projects such as renovating a battered women's shelter and participating in the Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition's lecture training program. The organization was the focus of this 1991 Crusader article.
Students, Charlie's Pub, Susquehanna University, Motion pictures
Every Sunday and Wednesday were movie nights in the University snack bar. Charlie's Pub was the place to be on Friday nights. Sponsored by the Student Activities Committee, students enjoyed such films as Driving Miss Daisy, Pretty Woman and Born on the Fourth of July.
Music education, Computers, Susquehanna University
Established in 1899, the University's music department was first directed by Edwin E.Sheldon, composer of the Susquehanna University alma mater. Over the next 100 years the study of music would evolve into a strong music program. In this 1997 image, a student uses a computer in the music lab to aid in her composition.

The University's music department was established in 1899 and found its first home in a brick house that once belonged to the University's fifth president, Jonathan Rose Dimm. By 1958, the department was moved to a new building, Heilman Hall, which has since been expanded and renamed the Cunningham Center for Music and Art. Seen in this 1996 image are music students at a practice session.
Nicholas A. Lopardo Stadium, Lopardo, Nicholas A., Construction, Stadiums, Susquehanna University
Homecoming 1999 served as the setting for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nicholas A. Lopardo Stadium. Lopardo, a 1968 graduate of the University who later chaired the Board of Trustees, appears in the center of this group. The stadium would hold seating for 3,500 spectators, a concession stand, press box and an eight lane, quarter mile track. Lights would be installed in 2002, permitting night games to be played for the first time.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Office of Multicultural Affairs sponsored Civil Rights speaker Dr. James Farmer. An audience of 200 listened to Dr. Farmer's speech on " A Living History of the Civil Rights Movement" in February 1990.

Due to the Desert Storm invasion of Iraq as well as concerns of potential terrorist attacks on Americans traveling and studying in Europe, the decision was made to cancel the study abroad classes conducted there. Study abroad classes in "safer parts of the world" such as Australia, Singapore, Japan, and Canada were encouraged.

The Persian Gulf War was on the minds of everyone in the early 1990s. Each person had their own opinion, oftentimes prompting hostilities within the campus community. This February 1, 1991 article in The Crusader confronts this issue head on and reminds everyone of the importance of respect and that "peace on earth begins with peace at home".

The first Professional Development day was sponsored by the Sigmund Weis School of Business Women of Weis Mentor Program and was held on September 24, 1995. Students, mentors, faculty and staff attended lectures on strategies for getting a job and preparing for a professional position.

In 1990, in an effort to support a healthier atmosphere and to address the rights of non-smokers, the Residence Life staff began gauging the students' interest in living in smoke free dormitories.

In recognition of the scholarly achievements of Russell W.Gilbert, a Susquehanna University Professor of German from 1930 to 1970, the Blough-Weis Library dedicated the Russell W. Gilbert Collection on September 27, 1990. This special library collection contains resources on the Pennsylvania German language, literature, history, and folklore and is housed in the Library's Pennsylvania Room. Many of the holdings were donated by Dr. Gilbert and his wife, Viola. The window shown in the background had once been part of the main entrance to the library.
Demonstrations, Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC), Susquehanna University
In the spring of 1990, 20 Susquehanna University students added their voices to a demonstration at the state capital as a part of the Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC) protest. "From degraded land comes degraded lives" was the theme of the march. The rally's targets were bills easing restrictions on state wetlands and state parks.
