School of Natural and Social Sciences, Susquehanna University, School of the Arts
In the summer of 1999, two new schools debuted at Susquehanna University, The School of Arts, Humanities and Communications and The School of Natural and Social Sciences. The School of Arts, Humanities and Communications encompassed the departments of art, communications and theatre arts, education, English, history, modern languages, music, philosophy, religion, and classical studies. The School of Natural and Social Science served the departments of biology, chemistry, geological and environmental sciences, mathematical sciences, physics, political science, psychology, sociology and anthropology. Prior to 1999, the academic structure was last reorganized in 1983.

The dining experience for students at SU evolved a great deal from the more formal era of the 1940s and 1950s to the casual offerings of entrée lines and salad bars of the 1990s.
Speakers, Trillin, Calvin, Susquehanna University, Graduation ceremonies
Calvin Trillin, an author best known for his humorous writings, gave the University's 141st commencement address to 1999's 381 graduating seniors. Trillin was honored with the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters during the ceremony.
Crusader Castle, Degenstein Campus Center, Susquehanna University, Encore Cafe
Another option for dining for students was the Encore Café, established in 1992. Formally the Crusader Castle, the Encore Café, located in the lower level of the Degenstein Campus Center, offered quick meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours of operations were later than those of the Evert Dining Hall giving students the chance to grab a bite to eat if they had missed meal time in the cafeteria.

Smith Hall, Dormitories, Remodeling, Buildings, Susquehanna University
In 1999, Smith Hall underwent a renovation and expansion as seen in this photo. The three story, double wing building that houses freshmen male and female students, was built in 1961.
