This is an advertisement to encourage women students to become active in the Association of Women Students. It calls for women, all members of A.W.S., to “branch out into the broader role and rights of women on campus and in the community.”

The Black Student Union, seen in this yearbook photo, was founded by students in 1972. The students sponsored a Black Student Weekend showing films and hosting speakers and music groups to celebrate the African American heritage and create projects meant to help African Americans in the region.

A new requirement for music majors in 1972 was three courses in dance, such as Instruction in ballet techniques and body training, jazz or modern interpretive dancing, and the techniques of instructing children in dance. The objective of the dance courses for music majors was to give the student "enough training in choreography so that they will be able to incorporate dance into their productions" later on when they become music teachers. Take note that the men in the photograph decided against wearing leotards.

This photo, taken in North Hall, a new women's dorm, was often called "Mini Dorm" for its tiny rooms. It gives us a glimpse of a typical dorm room in the 1970s. Freshmen in 1971 were the first to occupy it. On the top bunk to the right is Deborah Hansen. Is that Kim Clifford on the bottom bunk?

Rugby came to Susquehanna University in 1971. It was started by James Handlan of the Math Department. Handlan also helped start the ice hockey team in 1975.

Your vote counts, well, this might be a poor example. Susquehanna University Young Democrats showed their support for their party’s nominee, George McGovern. Members of the group are shown here hanging campaign signs around campus. Unfortunately for McGovern, the support of the Young Democrats wasn’t enough to put him in the White House. He lost the 1972 Presidential election to Richard M. Nixon.
