The 1960s were a time of great growth for Susquehanna University. The Campus Center opened in the fall of 1968 and contained an 800 seat dining room, bookstore, snack bar, lounge, and other special-purpose facilities. Built in the fall of 1968, the Conrad Greenhouse was a great benefit to students studying biology and botanical science.

The University's new student center opened its doors in 1968 and one of its most popular attractions was the game room. In addition to the pool and ping- pong tables shown in this image, students also enjoyed games of chess, checkers and Scrabble.

Ground was broken for the Univeristy's Student Center in 1965 and the building was dedicated in 1968. The Center's game room was a popular place to enjoy a game of pool, ping-pong, checkers or cards as described in this 1968 Crusader article. The next image provides an interior view of the game room.

The University's new campus center was dedicated in 1968 and opened with the 111th academic year. The student center was renamed the Degenstein Student Center in honor of major benefactor, Charles Degenstein. Mr. Degenstein was the son-in-law of Sigmund Weis, who was a member of the SU class of 1903 and co-founder of the Weis Markets grocery store chain. Mr. Degenstein was an executive with Weis Markets and his philanthropy played a significant role in the University's development.
