The former home of Susquehanna University's 9th president, Charles T. Aikens, was donated to the University by his son, Claude, and initally used as the temporary home of the Phi Epsilon fraternity. Charles Aikens lived in the home from 1905 until his death in 1927. His widow, Carrie, continued to occupy the home until her death in 1960. The property is now home to the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. This image shows the home as it appeared in the summer of 1961.

The Alumni Gymnasium, originally built in 1903, was destroyed by fire in 1934 and subsequently rebuilt. In 1962, an addition was built for extra instructional space. Shown is the gymnasium as it appeared in 1962.

On April 14, 1966, 450 students held a rally in front of Seibert Hall to protest the "suppression of student dissent by the administration". The principal grievances were invasion of privacy, the construction of a chapel rather than a library and the failure of the administration to acknowledge the concerns of students. The students chose a boycott of mandatory chapel as the the chief way to force change within the University. The boycott lasted a week until the University's board of directors intervened in an effort to open a dialogue between students and administration.

U.S. military involvement was on the rise in the late 1960s and so was opposition to the draft. A bill was introduced to end the draft in 1969 and this Crusader article encouraged students to do all they could to support the abolishment. An all voluteer military was established in 1973.

Constructed in 1928, the University library was expanded in 1958. The new addition featured a clock tower. The class of 1962 presented the University with four new clocks for the tower and those clocks are featured in this image from the summer of 1962.

The escalation of the conflict in Vietnam required an increase in the number of men being drafted into military service. This 1966 Crusader article alerts students who wished to postpone military service and continue a college career to a publication aimed at helping students score highly on the "Student Draft Deferment Test."

The Vietnam War began to escalate in the early 1960s and was a matter of vehement disagreement across the country. The protest play, "Viet Rock", was written by Megan Terry and performed in New York City's Open House Theater. By the fall of 1968, the play had made its way to Susquehanna University's campus and was presented by "The Susquehanna Players" under the direction of Robert A. Schanke. The play relied heavily on improvisation in order to establish mood and prompt audience reaction.
