In 1960, the Susquehanna University student body numbered 652 and by 1968 it had reached 1,186. Shown here is a 1960 admissions brochure highlighting the University's scenic campus as well as its many programs and activities.

This image shows the first members of the Archery Club. Established in May 1965, the members learned the basic forms and techniques involved in the sport.
Botany, Steele Hall, Classrooms, Susquehanna University
The first science building at Susquehanna was the Sell Memorial Laboratory. This laboratory was a converted student house of Henry Ziegler, Susquehanna's second president. Steele Hall, the University's next science building, was constructed in 1913. Students studied botany there in 1960.
Frog pond, Lakes & ponds, Susquehanna University.
Originally square in shape, the frog pond in front of Steele Hall was rebuilt and rounded in 1936 by a group of area chiropractors as a thank you to the University for designing a course specifically for them. Students are seen admiring that long-ago handy piece of work in this 1967 image. While the pond remains, the fence has since been removed.

Susquehanna University 1966 Alumnus, Cheryl Dowling, graces a billboard advertisement for furs in Sunbury. Ms Dowling, a French major, was involved in activities such as the University Choir, Oratorio Choir, Kappa Delta, May Day Musical, Parent's Day Committee, SCA, and Orientation, during her time at Susquehanna University.

The University's new student center opened its doors in 1968 and one of its most popular attractions was the game room. In addition to the pool and ping- pong tables shown in this image, students also enjoyed games of chess, checkers and Scrabble.

By the 1960s, Steele Science Hall had become technologically dated and was no longer able to hold all of the students taking science courses. Groundbreaking for the University's new science building took place in 1962. Built at a cost of $1,100,000, Fisher Science Hall was dedicated in 1964. This 1965 image shows Faylor Lecture Hall in the new building.

Prior to the 1960s, students dining on campus enjoyed a sit-down-and-be-served atmosphere at meals. The 1960s saw an increase in the student enrollment and a cafeteria style dining service was implemented. Shown here are students using the campus dining service in 1961.
Freeh, Steve, Football, Football players, Susquehanna University
Shown here is Crusader Steve Freeh. Having lost an arm to cancer as a young boy, Freeh continued to play football. In 1969, Freeh won a game for the Crusaders with a last minute field goal against a nationally ranked Westminster team. Freeh's career at Susquehanna spanned 1967 to 1970.

This 1968 photo shows freshmen students after the freshman/sophomore tug-of-war at Homecoming. The tug-of-war contest evolved from the earlier "tie-up" contest, an event in which, in a specified amount of time, freshmen and sophomores tied hand-to-foot as many members of the other class as possible and then carried them to a pen.

The colonial style house of Dr. Henry Benzenberg became home to the University's Student Health Center in 1960. Prior to that, the Center was located in Seibert Hall. Its location would change again in the 1980s when it was moved to a cottage on University Avenue. This image shows the Student Health Center at its 300 University Avenue location.

Heilman Hall, the University's music building was constructed in 1958 and named in recognition of Mary Heilman Spangler, who had donated a large sum to the project to honor her father John and brother Stephen. This 1960 image shows students putting the Heilman Hall study room to good use.
