The former home of Susquehanna University's 9th president, Charles T. Aikens, was donated to the University by his son, Claude, and initally used as the temporary home of the Phi Epsilon fraternity. Charles Aikens lived in the home from 1905 until his death in 1927. His widow, Carrie, continued to occupy the home until her death in 1960. The property is now home to the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. This image shows the home as it appeared in the summer of 1961.
Buildings, Susquehanna University, Alumni Gymnasium., Gymnasiums
The Alumni Gymnasium, originally built in 1903, was destroyed by fire in 1934 and subsequently rebuilt. In 1962, an addition was built for extra instructional space. Shown is the gymnasium as it appeared in 1962.

Groundbreaking for Fisher Science Hall named for George E. Fisher, a professor of natural science, took place in 1962. This photograph shows members of the Susquehanna University community laying the cornerstone of the new building. The science hall opened for business in 1964.

Originally erected in 1894, Gustavus Adolphus Hall was destroyed by fire in 1964. Desperately in need of a new student union, the University began construction on a new student center which was completed in 1968.

The library at Susquehanna University was originally constructed in 1928 and then expanded on its south side in 1958. This image captured the library as it appeared in 1961.

Constructed in 1928, the University library was expanded in 1958. The new addition featured a clock tower. The class of 1962 presented the University with four new clocks for the tower and those clocks are featured in this image from the summer of 1962.

As Susquehanna continued its growth, student housing became a priority. Smith Hall, a new dormitory, was dedicated in 1961. Shown in this image is one of the new dorm rooms. Bogar Hall can be seen in the background.

The groundbreaking for Smith Hall took place in 1959. The building was completed at a cost of $625,000 and dedicated in 1961. These images proudly display the modern building's many perks, including a spacious lounge for gatherings as well as large bedrooms with sweeping views of campus.

Weber Chapel was dedicated in November 1966 and the occasion was maked by five celebratory events taking place over eight days. The building was seen as the embodiment of the spirit that was moving through Susquehanna University.

Ground was broken for Weber Chapel in 1965. In the spring of 1966, in a spectacular display, a helicopter dropped the building's spire into place. The event provided students with a welcome break from final exam preparations.
West Hall, Susquehanna University, Dormitories, Buildings
Groundbreaking for New Men's Hall, later renamed West Hall, took place in 1963. This building was meant to replace the student housing in Gustavus Adolphus Hall, which ironically burned down in 1964, its last year of use as a dormitory. This 1965 image shows the interior and exterior of the new West Hall.
