The former home of Susquehanna University's 9th president, Charles T. Aikens, was donated to the University by his son, Claude, and initally used as the temporary home of the Phi Epsilon fraternity. Charles Aikens lived in the home from 1905 until his death in 1927. His widow, Carrie, continued to occupy the home until her death in 1960. The property is now home to the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. This image shows the home as it appeared in the summer of 1961.

Alpha Xi Delta was a social sorority founded in 1957. The sorority sponsored the campus Easter Egg Hunt. The children of faculty members enjoy the hunt in this 1961 image.
Garrett, James W., Football, Susquehanna University.
James Garrett became athletic director and coach of the University's football team in 1960. Under his direction, the Crusaders enjoyed an undefeated season in 1962. Coach Garrett left the University in 1966.

The groundbreaking for Smith Hall took place in 1959. The building was completed at a cost of $625,000 and dedicated in 1961. These images proudly display the modern building's many perks, including a spacious lounge for gatherings as well as large bedrooms with sweeping views of campus.

Students were always able to find a means to entertain themselves outside of the classroom.
Parachuting, Parachutists, Parachutes, Susquehanna University, Susquehanna Skydivers.
The Susquehanna Skydivers was founded in 1961. Every weekend, weather permitting, the group would meet for jumps at the Selinsgrove airport. Members packed their own parachutes. No experience was needed to join but membership was limited to men.

Groundbreaking for the new Theta Chi Fraternity House took place in 1960. By 1961, the Fraternity had moved from its old location at 400 West Pine Street to the new house on the west end of campus. Shown here are members of the Theta Chi Fraternity enjoying their new digs in 1961.
