Under the direction of the Men's Student Council, freshmen students built the homecoming pep rally bonfire. Seen in this photograph is the 1957 homecoming bonfire held the day before the big game.

Homecoming was a special annual event at Susquehanna University. Just before the Homecoming football game, a parade showcasing floats created by the students, including those living in fraternities and sororities, made its way through Selinsgrove. This photo shows a 1957 Homecoming float.
May Day, Homecomings, May queens, Susquehanna University
Post-war, May Day and Homecoming were again celebrated. This 1950 Lanthorn photo shows May Queen Joan Apple and Homecoming Sweetheart Jane Southwick. Both were selected by the student body. Joan Apple would later help to establish the Jane Conrad Apple and Joan Apple Zimmerman Fund in 1980. The fund is used to purchase books and sponsor events related to Elizabethan Studies. The Jane Conrad Apple Rare Book Room in the Blough-Weis Library was created in Jane Apple's honor.
