Always at the ready to cheer on their team and rile up the crowds, the 1950 cheerleading squad has its picture taken in front of the New Alumni Gymnasium. The members in the front row are Elaine Faddis, Elaine Williams, Maryann Getsinger, Muriel Phillips. In the back row: Roger Howling, Richard "Puppy" Doig, and Waren Pirie.

May Day, Homecomings, May queens, Susquehanna University
Post-war, May Day and Homecoming were again celebrated. This 1950 Lanthorn photo shows May Queen Joan Apple and Homecoming Sweetheart Jane Southwick. Both were selected by the student body. Joan Apple would later help to establish the Jane Conrad Apple and Joan Apple Zimmerman Fund in 1980. The fund is used to purchase books and sponsor events related to Elizabethan Studies. The Jane Conrad Apple Rare Book Room in the Blough-Weis Library was created in Jane Apple's honor.
