The eastern gateway to the Susquehanna University campus was named for Latimer Landes, an alumnus and member of the University's Board of Directors. In order to make room for the gateway, a tree dedicated by the class of 1888 was removed. On Homecoming Day in 1959, a plaque was dedicated in honor of the tree. Dr. John Woodruff, shown standing beside the plaque, was the last surviving member of the class of 1888.

In 1908 the fourth president of Susquehanna University, Franklin Manhart, arranged to have the library's book collection cataloged in accordance with the Dewey Decimal System. The card catalog system was used until the library became automated in 1991. This image shows a student putting the catalog to good use in 1959.

Dating at Susquehanna in the 1950s reflected the conservative tone of the times. In the 1950s, Seibert Hall was a women's dormitory. Gentlemen callers had to leave the building by 11:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and by 10:00 p.m. on Sunday. This 1954 picture shows couples saying goodnight on Seibert Hall's front porch.
