The first floor of Gustavus Adolphus Hall was renovated in 1951, in the midst of several campus building improvements. It took on the role of a student union with a snack bar, bookstore, lounge and student post office. The lounge provided the perfect place for these members of the junior class to share a bowl of ice cream in 1954.
